Agostino Ferrente Reanimates Discarded Footage in Selfie-Lato B, a Decade After Selfie
Agostino Ferrente's latest film, Selfie-Lato B, is crafted from unused footage of his previous documentary, Selfie, which was inspired by the tragic 2014 murder of 16-year-old Davide Bifolco in Naples. To capture the essence of Bifolco's life, Ferrente provided mobile phones to his friends, Alessandro and Pietro. A decade later, he revisited this footage to create a new, independent film. Ferrente, recognized for works like L'orchestra di Piazza Vittorio and Le cose belle, compares his approach to reimagining a poem. He recalls a screening of Selfie that drew nearly a thousand attendees, including the teens he interviewed. The film delves into the boys' aspirations and anxieties, echoing themes from Robert Musil's The Man Without Qualities. This piece was written by Marta Rizzo for Artribune.
