Zurbarán's First Major UK Retrospective Opens at National Gallery

From 2 May to 23 August 2026, the National Gallery in London will present the first significant exhibition in the UK focused on Francisco de Zurbarán, located in the Sainsbury Wing. Curated by Francesca Whitlum-Cooper, Daniel Sobrino Ralston, and Imogen Tedbury, alongside Charlotte Chastel-Rousseau and Rebecca Long, the showcase will include pieces from prominent collections across Europe and the United States. Notable works on display will be 'A Cup of Water and a Rose' (c. 1630), 'The Apparition of Saint Peter to Saint Peter Nolasco' (1629), 'Saint Serapion' (1628), 'The Surrender of Seville' (1629), and 'The Body of Saint Bonaventure' (c. 1629). The exhibition highlights Zurbarán's exceptional skill in manipulating light and shadow.
