Zorica Čolić Debuts in Italy at Reception Rome with 'Short Cuts – Part I: The Split'

exhibition · 2026-09-11

Reception Rome, the independent space at Via Cosseria 3 in Rome, presents from 18 September to 7 November 2026 the first Italian solo exhibition of Zorica Čolić, titled Short Cuts – Part I: The Split. The vernissage is scheduled for Friday 18 September at 18:00, and the space can be visited Tuesday through Saturday by appointment. The exhibition is conceived in two distinct but interconnected chapters; this first chapter closes with an opening toward the second, focused on the three-channel installation The Thing That Enjoys Itself (2025). Čolić's work is deliberately uncomfortable, addressing the body without ever showing it whole. The premise of her practice is as simple as it is radical: the body does not belong to the person who inhabits it. It is contested territory, subject to political, medical, institutional and corporate forces, all engaged in regulating its aesthetics, productivity and desires. On one side stands the individual and the attempt to remain intact, to name oneself; on the other, the pressures that fragment and commodify the body. The exhibition unfolds through this tension between desire, medicine and capital, positioning the body as a site of negotiation rather than possession.
