Zoe Grey and Joshua Andree Present Solo Exhibitions at Despard Gallery

Despard Gallery in Tasmania is hosting two concurrent solo exhibitions by Zoe Grey and Joshua Andree, both exploring personal landscapes through distinct methodologies. Grey's 'Out Of The Blue' (26 August – 19 September 2026) reflects on grief and reconnection with her hometown Marrawah on Tasmania's west coast, following her mother's sudden death. The exhibition features 23 works, including 16 abstract paintings and eight text-based pieces on unstretched linen, which are a new direction for Grey. Her practice, solidified by winning the 2024 Hadley's Art Prize, translates the coastal environment into expressive washes of color and texture. Andree's 'If My Wings Should Fail Me' (23 September – 17 October 2026) draws on his immediate surroundings near the River Derwent, focusing on the shifting sky. The title references a gospel-blues lyric later used by Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin, and Andree's works are geometrically divided, blending realism and abstraction to capture transient moments. He cites influences from Monet, Turner, and Rothko, aiming to create spaces for viewers to project themselves into the landscape. Both exhibitions are presented at Despard Gallery in Tasmania, with the shows running sequentially from late August to mid-October 2026.
