Ziv Ringer's Forged Iron Sculptures Explore Universal Human Experience

Sculptor Ziv Ringer transforms forged steel into expressive narratives about the human condition, blending classical blacksmithing with contemporary metalworking techniques. His work "Living Together" features twenty-three anonymous steel figures in a composition measuring 78cm by 118cm, representing universal human experiences without specific gender, age, or cultural markers. Ringer's artistic practice emerged from a three-decade career in the information and communications industry after graduating in computer science in the early 1980s. He established his own iron studio approximately five years ago, developing a contextual aesthetic that emphasizes gesture and posture over delicate detail. His sculptures frequently portray emotional qualities like determination, competitiveness, perseverance, loneliness, and despair, often with ironic or unexpected situations. Ringer's technical approach combines hammering hot iron on an anvil with sawing, welding, grinding, drilling, color fixing of heated iron, and brass inlays to create smooth textures contrasting with iron's industrial character. Family influences include his father, a craftsman and technical teacher, and his mother, who fostered appreciation for order and visual harmony. Inspiration comes from fellow artists, creative communities at exhibitions, and everyday observations of human behavior.
