Antonio Homem, Steward of Sonnabend Art Legacy, Passes at 86

Antonio Homem, who played a pivotal role in managing the art collection of gallerist Ileana Sonnabend and her husband Michael, has died at age 86. The announcement came from the Sonnabend Collection Mantova museum in Italy, which he helped establish in 2025. Born in Portugal in 1939, Homem began working with Ileana Sonnabend in Paris in 1968 and later assisted with opening her New York gallery in 1971. After her death in 2007, he became director of the gallery and founded the Sonnabend Collection Foundation to preserve works by prominent post-war artists. His contributions ensured the continuation of the Sonnabends' support for significant contemporary art figures.
