Zim & Zou Craft Vintage Boombox and Cassette Tapes from Handmade Paper Sculptures

Designers Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmermann, known as Zim & Zou, have created a series of handmade paper sculptures titled Back to Basics II. The collection features vibrant reimaginings of vintage boomboxes and cassette tapes, constructed entirely from colored paper through meticulous cutting, folding, and layering techniques. Each boombox sculpture includes detailed elements like speaker grids, buttons, sliders, and a cassette slot, with color blocks distinguishing functional parts. Cassette tape sculptures present small rectangular forms with internal circular reels, crafted from folded paper sheets. The series contrasts historical audio devices with contemporary paper artistry, allowing viewers to examine structural details through a playful, colorful lens. All artworks are produced manually without mechanical assistance.
