Crystal Bridges Unveils 114,000-Square-Foot Expansion by Moshe Safdie

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, opens a major expansion on June 6–7, 2025, designed by founding architect Moshe Safdie, now 83. The 114,000-square-foot addition includes two new galleries, a Learning and Engagement Hub with ceramic and artmaking studios, a 40-seat café called Quartz and Honey, and five acres of landscaped trails and gardens. The expansion continues the museum's original figure-eight circulation logic. The inaugural temporary exhibition is “Keith Haring in 3D.” The museum has rehung nearly its entire collection, including outdoor works, and announced new collecting areas in craft and Indigenous art. Admission remains free, funded by an endowment from Alice Walton and Walmart. Crystal Bridges now totals 314,000 square feet and attracts nearly 800,000 annual visitors, compared to LACMA's 1 million. The expansion cost has not been disclosed.
