Zhanna Kadyrova to Showcase Evacuated Sculpture at Ukraine's Venice Biennale Pavilion

Ukraine will be represented by Zhanna Kadyrova at the 61st Venice Biennale with her project titled 'Security Guarantees.' This initiative focuses on a sculpture she co-created with Denys Ruban in 2019, originally placed in a public park in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. The artwork, situated where a Soviet nuclear-capable aircraft once stood, was relocated in 2024 due to the encroaching frontline and subsequent evacuations. In Venice, the exhibition will feature elements at the Giardini entrance and in the Arsenale, showcasing historical documents linked to the Budapest Memorandum and Ukraine's nuclear disarmament. Kadyrova stated that while the project does not align with the Biennale's theme 'In Minor Keys,' it powerfully conveys Ukraine's wartime reality and the importance of cultural resilience. The event is scheduled from 9 May to 22 November 2026.
