ZHA's Songshan Lake Exhibition and Performance Center Opens in Dongguan
On March 30, 2026, the Songshan Lake Exhibition and Performance Center, a collaboration between Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) and the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, was inaugurated in Dongguan City, China. This 45,000-square-metre venue, situated in the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, acts as a cultural hub for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Construction commenced in 2021. Drawing inspiration from Lingnan architecture, the design incorporates a roof overhang to enhance natural lighting and features a public plaza, garden terraces, and a waterfront promenade. The facility includes a Grand Theatre with 1,200 seats, an Exhibition Hall, and a 400-seat Multifunction Hall, along with sustainable elements like photovoltaic arrays and rainwater collection. The opening concert was performed by the China National Symphony Orchestra.
