ZHA and Nagami unveil 3D-printed Echo Chair from recycled plastic

ZHA (formerly Zaha Hadid Architects) has collaborated with Spanish brand Nagami to launch the Echo Chair, a 3D-printed sculptural chair made from recycled plastic. The chair features an arching backrest and a seat that scoops up at the sides, printed as one continuous piece using parametric design software. It is made from polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PET) derived from recycled industrial waste, including single-use medical plastics. The ribbed surface results from the continuous 3D printing process. Available in four colorways—white, black, white-to-translucent gradient, and caramel (from a bio-based cork composite)—the chair is on display at London Creates, an architecture and design trade show curated by ZHA at The Truman Brewery until 26 July. ZHA project design director Sebastian Andia stated the ambition was to transform an overlooked resource into a desirable object. Nagami previously launched its first 3D-printed chair collection in 2018, which included two ZHA designs. ZHA principal Patrik Schumacher recently announced the studio's rebranding, dropping the name Zaha Hadid Architects after winning a legal battle with the Zaha Hadid Foundation.
