Zero 10 digital art initiative debuts in Switzerland with historical focus

exhibition · 2026-06-17

Art Basel's digital art project, Zero 10, is set to debut in Switzerland at Art Basel in Basel, following its introduction at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2025 and a recent showcase at Art Basel Hong Kong. Co-curated by Trevor Paglen, a US artist, and Eli Scheinman, Art Basel's senior adviser for digital art, this edition seeks to highlight a broader historical context for digital art, featuring about one-third of artists active during the 1950s to 1970s. Paglen asserts that contemporary art is fundamentally digital, even in traditional forms. The exhibition includes Vera Molnár's '25 Carrés' (1990) and Aziza Kadyri's AI-driven 'A Borrowed Hand' (2026). Criticism from Kate Vass emphasizes the need for digital art to thrive in innovative environments rather than traditional fairs.
