ZDA revives 1937 California-style home with pink turret in Mexico City

ZDA – Yuri Zagorin Alazraki has completed Casa Kiki, the renovation of a 1937 California-style residence in Lomas de Chapultepec, Mexico City. The project reconfigures the original structure to improve natural light, thermal comfort, and indoor-outdoor connections. Social spaces were relocated to southern and western exposures, while bedrooms were repositioned for better thermal performance. The centerpiece is a restored turret featuring a pink-painted steel spiral staircase around integrated shelving, with a glazed skylight and a myrtle tree rising through the floor. The renovation includes rainwater harvesting, solar panels, hydronic radiant floor heating, cross ventilation, improved insulation, high-performance glazing, and electric vehicle charging. Existing brick walls provide thermal mass, and recycled timber was reused. The 434 sqm house now features a kitchen in the former living room, a new living room extension, and terraces with outdoor bathing areas.
