Yvonne Jacquette's Aerial New York Paintings Gain Recognition

Yvonne Jacquette, an artist celebrated for her aerial depictions of New York City, is finally gaining the recognition she deserves. Born in 1926, her unique style emerged after a 1969 flight to San Diego sparked her interest in capturing the city from an elevated perspective. By the mid-1970s, she was hiring private planes from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey to sketch and photograph Manhattan from high altitudes. For nearly 25 years, she augmented these flights with helicopter trips and drawing sessions on the World Trade Center. Immersed in the downtown New York art community, Jacquette translated her aerial observations into intricate painted representations. Although she passed away in 2023, her legacy as a pioneer in aerial painting endures, with renewed exhibitions and critical acclaim.
