YSG Studio Uses Wallpaper as Structural Element in 1990s NSW Holiday Home

YSG Studio has reimagined a 1990s mock-Colonial residence on the New South Wales Coast, just a few hours from Sydney, into a family getaway known as Plantasia, finalized in 2025. The design constraints excluded new internal walls, leading to spatial organization through surfaces, thresholds, furniture, and finishes. The studio characterizes it as a 'choose your own adventure' retreat featuring psychedelic interior landscapes. Over ten varieties of flora and fauna wallpapers adorn the walls, while cork flooring showcases an infinite hourglass design. The entryway boasts a butter-yellow timber door with a V.Brokkr tubular brass pull. The parlour is furnished with floral wallpaper, a circular velvet ottoman, and an Aurélien Serre armchair. The kitchen and dining space features a farmhouse-style timber table with an eclectic mix of chairs, including vintage rush seats and Thonets, alongside an amoebic timber island topped with Rosso Asiago marble. Darker hues of merlot red, violet, and absinthe green dominate the bedrooms, with Hollyhocks wallpaper on the ceilings. The master suite is adorned with cascading autumn leaves, striped ceilings, and sky blue carpet, evoking a sense of 'Twin Peaks' nostalgia. Felicity Ng handled the styling, utilizing key materials such as cork flooring, green onyx, Rosso Asiago marble, Zellige tiles, and glass mosaic.
