Ys Housing's Shand Road Townhouses Pilot Medium-Density Model in Melbourne

Ys Housing has finalized Shand Road, a pilot initiative featuring four townhouses with two and three bedrooms situated on a typical suburban block in Melbourne's middle suburbs. This 562 m² development, crafted by lead architect Milly Gamlin and curated by Miwa Negoro, explores a replicable model for the commonly found 15-metre frontage lots in residential areas. The focus of the project is on design excellence, environmental sustainability, and affordability. Acting as both architect and developer, Ys Housing aims to create housing that is more thoughtfully designed than mass-produced options while remaining more attainable than custom architecture. The builder was Fornido, with landscape design by nohLa, and photography by Rory Gardiner. Key manufacturers involved include Architectural Window Systems, Bluescope Steel, and Havwoods. The project reached completion in 2025.
