Yomna El Beyaly Documents Theatrical Everyday Scenes in Cairo Through iPhone Photography

Yomna El Beyaly, a Paris-born artist of Egyptian heritage, creates photographic series capturing ordinary moments in Cairo that possess theatrical qualities. Her project 'Koll Shai2' was shot entirely on iPhone while sourcing accessories in the city, focusing on girlhood aesthetics in commercial areas. El Beyaly, currently studying at Beaux-Arts de Paris after completing a Fashion Image degree at Duperré, uses mobile devices for discreet photography in environments where cameras draw unwanted attention. Her work explores themes of diaspora identity, memory, and the visual culture of Egyptian domestic spaces, with additional series like 'Fata7i ya warda' examining nostalgic elements often dismissed as kitsch. The artist divides her time between France, where she produces staged editorial work, and Egypt, where she observes daily rituals and environments.
