Ylva Snöfrid's 'Musernas hus' Transforms Liljevalchs into a Living Gesamtkunstwerk

At Liljevalchs konsthall in Stockholm, Ylva Snöfrid presents 'Musernas hus' (House of the Muses), an exhibition that turns the century-old building into a painterly and performative universe. The show is structured around a mythological corpus of nine muses and four elements, each assigned to a separate hall. Visitors receive a deck of 33 tarot-like cards prescribing rituals to perform, such as sitting on sofas built from Snöfrid's paintings or writing a true 'bio.' The artist, who changed her name from Ylva Ogland via a ritual, explores the unity of life and art through anti-consumerism and self-made furniture. The oldest paintings, from the 1990s, were repainted after the press preview, making them the newest works. The exhibition resists conventional art criticism by overwhelming it with its own discourse, forcing critics to abandon standard rituals and embrace idiosyncratic associations. Snöfrid's earlier work in 2009 involved simultaneous exhibitions in her empty apartment and at Galleri Brändström, where she lived during the period.
