YIVO Presents Steve Marcus: Psychedelicatessen Mashup of Jewish Tradition and 1960s Counterculture
A new exhibition titled "Psychedelicatessen: A Powerful Dose of Art by Steve Marcus" will open at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research on July 9 and continue until December. The display includes more than 30 artworks by East Village artist Steve Marcus, who fuses elements of Jewish culture with themes from delis and psychedelic art. Curated by Eddy Portnoy, the exhibit contrasts Jewish historical motifs with 1960s pop art influences. An opening event will feature a dialogue between Marcus and Portnoy. This contemporary show brings humor to the forefront, diverging from nostalgic themes linked to its namesake deli.
