Yinka Ilori Opens Solo Show 'Joy Through Resistance' in London

Artist and designer Yinka Ilori MBE has opened a new solo exhibition titled 'Joy Through Resistance' at Cristea Roberts Gallery in London. The show, located near Piccadilly Circus, features over 20 new and recent works across painting, print, sculpture, and sound. Ilori describes it as his most personal collection to date, exploring themes of loss, community, joy, resilience, and shared experiences. The exhibition is the culmination of a year of preparation. Later in 2026, Ilori will release a book titled 'Chairman' with Oro Editions, focusing on his early chair design practice. In a recent interview, Ilori also shared personal recommendations: he frequently reads 'How to be a Stoic' by Massimo Pigliucci, enjoys dining at Strakers in Notting Hill for steak and cocktails, and considers Spike Lee's 1989 film 'Do the Right Thing' a lasting influence. He listens to Asake's album 'M$NEY' on repeat and expressed interest in purchasing a Morgan Motor car. Ilori also mentioned a wordsearch puzzle from his 'Pocket Wordsearch Collection' as a favorite camping activity.
