Yasmin Berrada's Unconventional Path to Leading Morocco's Loft Art Gallery

artist · 2026-10-09

Yasmin Berrada, hailing from Casablanca, Morocco, never thought she'd own a gallery. After graduating from Université Paris Dauphine, she worked in asset management. However, the birth of her first daughter prompted her to rethink her professional path. “I was feeling unwell, and I wanted to try something different,” she told Artsy. Looking back, she feels as though art found her. Her father was an avid collector of Moroccan art, and she bought her first artwork with her initial earnings. In 2009, alongside her sister Myriem, she launched Loft Art Gallery in the Triangle d'Or of Casablanca. Their passion for art, despite no formal training, helped the gallery become a key cultural spot in Morocco, showcasing works like Mohamed Melehi's Orange Moon, a replica from 1984.
