Yapci Ramos Unveils 'yo, Guirre' Video Installation at Cabildo de La Gomera
From 5 September to 21 November 2026, the Sala de Exposiciones del Cabildo de La Gomera in San Sebastián de La Gomera will host 'yo, Guirre', a video installation by Canarian artist Yapci Ramos. This work features two video segments alongside three audio pieces, drawing on cultural elements from the island such as el silbo, el salto del pastor, sacrifice altars, and the guirre to illustrate themes of personal transformation. The rugged landscape of La Gomera, which has inspired innovative methods for traversing distances, is also a key element. The guirre, which has been extinct for seventy years due to DDT, serves as a symbol of the revival of Gomera's heritage, with Ramos weaving these cultural motifs into 'yo, Guirre' to convey inner change through embracing limitations.
