XU Studio Renovates ByteDance's Beijing 1733 Commercial Space with Light-Touch Intervention

architecture-design · 2026-10-18

XU Studio has finalized the redesign of public and commercial areas at Beijing 1733, a ByteDance corporate campus project covering 9,000 m², set for completion in 2025. Curated by HAN Shuang (韩爽), the initiative explores how retail spaces within efficiency-oriented office parks can evolve beyond mere functional roles to become vibrant, communal environments. The studio employed a subtle intervention strategy, transforming a sunken commercial area and themed interiors with architectural additions, integrated landscaping, and revamped retail layouts. This approach enhances the original austere architecture, creating a more dynamic and welcoming public space through open interfaces, natural elements, and a diverse commercial offering. The design team included Xu Yijun, Jiang Yan, and others, with Yumeng Zhu providing photography. ByteDance's client team featured Zhang Jin and others.
