XPOME's SKATEABLE: Concrete Letterforms Transform into Sculptural Skatepark in Gabrovo
Bulgarian artist XPOME, known for his graffiti work, has unveiled SKATEABLE, a unique concrete mini skatepark that also serves as a sculpture. This installation is part of an exhibition celebrating the history of skateboarding in Bulgaria, located at the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Center in Gabrovo. XPOME was invited to create a sculpture, which he positioned in front of the center's historic building. The artwork features five concrete and steel letters spelling 'XPOME,' each crafted as a functional skateboarding or resting feature. The X acts as a double quarter pipe, the P includes a classic rail around a concrete island, the O is Bulgaria's first volcano, the M is a large bench, and the E is a small triple jump platform. This project combines graffiti art with practical skate architecture and is included in designboom's DIY submissions, with coverage edited by Christina Vergopoulou.
