Xplore Agora School in Amsterdam: A Radically Open Educational Building
In Amsterdam North, Studio Ard Hoksbergen has finalized the Xplore Agora School, marking the first educational facility in the Netherlands specifically designed for the Agora learning model, which eschews fixed subjects, schedules, and classrooms. Spanning 5,825 m² and completed in 2025, the building embodies an educational philosophy that emphasizes openness, interaction, autonomy, and visibility. The design team comprised lead architect Ard Hoksbergen, Erik Hoogendam, and Hiu Yu Ong, with project curation by Nina Vuga and photography by Max Hart Nibbrig. Key manufacturers included Mosa, Aluvo, and Kone, while engineering support came from Peutz, De Groot Installaties, and Clemens Lichtadvies.
