Xingu House: Tetro Arquitetura's sculptural home in Brazil

Tetro Arquitetura has completed Xingu House, a private residence in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The 1,800 sq m house pinwheels around a central axis on an 8,000 sq m plot, raised above ground on six faceted concrete pillars that house stairs, bathrooms, and a lift. The design preserves existing stone terraces repurposed as outdoor living spaces with a kitchen, reflecting ponds, and a pool. The client, who sought a sculptural presence, collaborated with Tetro's Carlos Maia, Débora Mendes, and Igor Macedo. The house features three wings: one cantilevered primary suite, two wings touching the ground, and a separate spa structure. Key elements include a ribbon of glass, a concrete dining counter, and a steel-and-glass sculpture by Túlio Pinto. Construction required precise on-site formwork for the complex organic pillar geometries. The project represents Tetro's investigation into architecture-landscape relationships and structural experimentation.
