Xi Niu: In Search of New Routes at Rhinoceros Gallery Rereads Rome Through Seven Chinese Artists

"Xi Niu: In Search of New Routes," curated by Claire Shiying Li, showcases seven contemporary Chinese artists at Rhinoceros Gallery, who reinterpret Rome through the Silk Road perspective. This exhibition challenges cultural divisions and emphasizes transcultural interactions. Notable pieces include Xie Fan's terracotta sunsets, Zhao Gang's aerial abstractions, and Zhou Yilun's transformed found objects. Li points out the difficulties of bringing these artists together within the Chinese art framework, highlighting Rome's role in fostering collaboration. Additionally, artists like Hao Liang and Han Mengyun delve into figurative traditions and community ties. The gallery, designed by Jean Nouvel, enriches the exhibition's conversations, marking "Xi Niu" as Rhinoceros's inaugural project.
