Xi'an Public Library by Hong Designworks and China Northwest Architectural Design and Research Institute
The Chang'an Academy Xi'an Public Library, a 70,000-square-metre cultural hub located in Xi'an's Chanba Ecological Area, Shanxi Province, has been finalized by Hong Designworks and the China Northwest Architectural Design and Research Institute. Overlooking the Ba River and Olympic Sports Centre, the facility includes areas designated for reading, exhibitions, and educational purposes. Its expansive white roof, reminiscent of an open book, also reflects traditional Chinese architecture's upturned eaves. The design team sought to create inviting public spaces, co-founder Ming Dang emphasized a shift towards prioritizing everyday use over formal architectural expression. The structure is segmented into three parts by a central plaza and a narrow cut, leading to a spacious atrium that accommodates various activities. Interiors boast wood-grain metal panels, stone flooring, and white triangular ceilings. This project was highlighted on Dezeen, featuring photography by Studio Ten.
