Women-Led Denim Brands Redefine Slim Jeans with Tailored, Non-Stretch Fits

A new wave of women designers is reinventing slim-fitting American denim, moving away from the spray-on skinny jeans of the 2010s toward tailored, refined silhouettes with a bit of air around the leg. Designers like Jac Cameron of Rùadh, Nina Khosla and Talia Shuvalov of Ossou, Yael Aflalo of Aflalo, and Jamie Haller of her namesake line are creating jeans that are trim but not restrictive, often made with sustainable materials and non-stretch fabrics. Cameron's Agnes jean, for instance, uses 75% recycled cotton and 25% postindustrial waste, giving it a gutsier, heavier feel. Ossou's Noon jean evokes Lady Levi's from the 1930s, while Aflalo's Brontë is extremely lean top-to-bottom. Haller, a 2026 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, offers slim styles like the Slim Stovepipe and the Low, alongside wider options. The trend's resurgence was sparked by Miuccia Prada's fall 2024 Miu Miu collection and Hedi Slimane's spring 2020 Celine collection, which featured high-waisted, pipe-shaped jeans. This shift is notable for being led by women, a departure from the male-dominated skinny jean era, and reflects a broader variety of fits now available. The designers' close involvement in fit testing and customer communication gives them an edge, as they embrace a more inclusive and comfortable approach to slim denim.
