Wolf Alice's Ellie Rowsell on Style, Advice, and Pride & Prejudice

Ellie Rowsell, frontwoman of the north London band Wolf Alice, answered 20 questions ahead of their headline set at Green Man 2026, held in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. The band, known for their genre-shifting sound, closed the festival with arena-level production, performing songs like 'Yuk Foo' and a cover of Mazzy Star's 'Fade Into You' with Anna Calvi and Dove Ellis. Rowsell discussed her style icons (Marianne Faithfull, Jane Birkin, Patti Smith, Debbie Harry), her favorite film (Joe Wright's 'Pride and Prejudice'), and her advice to her younger self: to trust her own ideas. Wolf Alice's latest album, 'The Clearing', released in August 2025, draws on 1970s soft rock and glam, and was recorded in LA with producer Greg Kurstin. The band has had a big year, headlining two nights at London's O2 Arena in December and Finsbury Park in July. Rowsell also mentioned being inspired by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, whom she saw in Lithuania, and expressed excitement about emerging artists like Julia Cumming, Junior Mesa, and Sekko.
