WIRED Tests AirPods Cases From Dbrand, UAG, ESR, Nomad, Bandolier and Casetify

WIRED published a 2026 guide to AirPods cases, selecting models that add protection or function rather than novelty designs. The Dbrand Grip Case, made of black rubber and customizable with more than 40 non-reusable skin options including a UV-reactive Holo White, was named best overall; it fits AirPods Pro (1st, 2nd and 3rd generation) and AirPods (3rd and 4th generation). UAG's Scout case, a thick rubber shell with squared edges and an optional carabiner in 10 colors, took the rugged pick for AirPods Pro (3rd generation) and AirPods (4th generation). ESR's Orbit Hybrid, with magnets for MagSafe charging and a magnetically snapping lid, was chosen for MagSafe users. A Horween leather case that develops a patina earned the leather category, while the Pulse FlickLock Magnetic Case, whose front switch pops the lid open for one-handed use and whose colors coordinate with the iPhone 17 lineup, was cited as improving the AirPods experience. Bandolier's Avery Clip-On Pouch, in genuine pebbled leather, was picked for its clip, and Casetify's Ripple Case for AirPods Max was noted for an antistatic, dust-proof coating. Also tested were Burga's $25 snap-on AirPods Max case, the $30 Alpaka x Twelve South Micro Tote in X-Pac material, and Bellroy's $39 Pod Jacket. Spigen's Classic LS Case was not recommended because its lid pops off. Testing was done mostly with AirPods Pro 3.
