Winter Pavilion: A Mountain House Extension by Valdivieso Arquitectos
Valdivieso Arquitectos has completed a winter pavilion extension to a single-family home in Alcalá de la Selva, Teruel, Spain. The project, built between 2023 and 2024, adds a 135.85 m² volume to a 50-year-old country house at 1,400 meters in the Sierra de Gúdar. The new pavilion, clad in profiled thermolacquered sheet metal over CLT panels, is oriented south and east to maximize solar gain. It connects to the existing house via a bridge at the intermediate landing of the north-facing staircase, creating a semi-buried steel porch below. The interior features a wood-burning stove at its center, generating a heterothermic space with a partial mezzanine. The north facade includes a large glass pane offering views of Valdelinares peaks.
