Williamson Williamson's Garden Laneway House: A Lyrical Addition to Toronto's Urban Fabric

In 2022, Toronto-based architecture firm Williamson Williamson completed the Garden Laneway House, a residential project nestled between garages along a service alley. The house, with an area of 2300 square feet, was designed by a team including Betsy Williamson, Shane Williamson, Javier Huerta, Dimitra Papantonis, and Steven Chen, with Betsy Williamson serving as principal architect. Interior design was handled by Suzanne Wilkinson Interiors Inc., while structural engineering was provided by Atkins + Van Groll and faet lab, mechanical engineering by McCallum HVAC Design Inc., and general contracting by Wilkinson Construction Services Inc. The project features a distinctive rotated brick facade that brings aesthetic appeal to the alleyway and reimagines the potential of small-scale urban densification. The project utilized products from suppliers including Duravit, Flexform, Vibia, Hansgrohe, Belden, Franke, Nudura, Regency Fireplace Products, Scavolini, Trillium Hardware, and Velux Skylights.
