William Kentridge's Mind Theater at Villa Rufolo in Ravello

A major exhibition of William Kentridge's work opens at Villa Rufolo in Ravello, running until September 5, 2026. Produced by Fondazione Ravello in collaboration with Galleria Lia Rumma, the show is a highlight of the 74th Ravello Festival. The exhibition spans the villa's interior rooms and the 19th-century garden designed by Francis Nevile Reid, creating a dialogue between architecture and coastal landscape. Key works include the video 'Preparing the Flute' (2005), which references Mozart's 'The Magic Flute' and confronts Enlightenment ideals with colonial trauma; 'Theatre Drawing I (La Fenice Theatre)' (2008); 'Sibyl' (2020) from the 'Waiting for the Sibyl' project; 'Fugitive Words' (2024); and 'Mayakovsky Diorama' (2025), which blends diorama and magic lantern traditions with Russian avant-garde satire. 'Medicine Chest' (2001) projects animation onto a pharmacy cabinet. Outdoors, 'Paper Procession' (2023) features anthropomorphic silhouettes in iron and paper against the Amalfi Coast. The exhibition also includes a talk by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi at Palazzo Avino.
