Wilfredo Prieto Debuts in Peru with AI-Informed Exhibition at Galería Gato, Lima
Cuban artist Wilfredo Prieto is set to unveil his inaugural solo exhibition in Peru, named Neblina alrededor del árbol (Mist Around the Tree), at Galería Gato in Lima from September 4 to October 17, 2026. This exhibition investigates themes of artificial intelligence, painting, and the economy of objects, presenting AI-generated landscape images on canvas alongside tangible collections of bottle caps. Prieto addresses the indistinct boundaries between photography and painting, as well as issues of ownership and authorship in the AI era. Born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, in 1978, he studied at the Escuela Profesional de Artes Plásticas and the Instituto Superior de Arte. Prieto has showcased his work at the Guggenheim and Centre Pompidou and has participated in prominent biennials. Galería Gato, established in December 2024, will feature additional artists' works later this year.
