Whitney Biennial 2026 Opens with 56 Artists, Runs Through August 23
The Whitney Biennial 2026, co-organized by Marcela Guerrero and Drew Sawyer, features 56 artists, duos, and collectives. The exhibition explores themes of technological change, climate anxiety, and social identity. Notable participants include Young Joon Kwak, whose work "Divine Dance of Soft Revolt" uses mirrored casts of queer and trans bodies; Julio Torres, presenting a performance with Martine Gutierrez; and deceased artists José Maceda and Kimowan Metchewais. The Biennial runs through August 23, 2026, at the Whitney Museum in New York's Meatpacking District. Curators conducted over 300 studio visits to select the intergenerational roster, with roughly 60% of artists born after 1980. The show includes works by Ash Arder, Akira Ikezoe, Mao Ishikawa, CFGNY, Raven Halfmoon, and Emilie Louise Gossiaux. Free admission is available on Friday nights and the second Sunday of each month.
