White Cube Signs Shigeo Otake, Painter of Fungal Worlds
White Cube has revealed its global representation of Shigeo Otake, a Japanese artist born in Kobe in 1955. This October, his new works will be showcased at Art Basel Paris (Booth B34). Following this, Otake's inaugural solo exhibition in the UK is scheduled for spring 2028 at White Cube Mason's Yard in London. This event aligns with his two-part retrospective at the Consortium Museum in Venice and Dijon, which will continue until March 21, 2027. Otake, who studied egg tempera at Kyoto City University of Arts in the mid-1970s, addresses socio-economic, political, and ecological issues in his art, often featuring a girl in a red dress. Recent solo shows have taken place at White Cube Hong Kong (2026) and ADZ Gallery, Lisbon (2024).
