Wheeler Kearns Architects Completes Timber Lane Retreat on Lake Michigan Shore

architecture-design · 2026-10-13

Timber Lane Retreat, a residence designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects, is situated on Lake Michigan and was completed in 2026. The structure is arranged around a central courtyard and features a combination of brown metal and limestone cladding. It consists of three distinct sections: two gabled structures and a single-story box that is offset. A glass corridor links these sections, allowing views from the street to the lake. The first gabled section houses a garage and an exercise area, while the offset box offers communal spaces with expansive sliding glass doors. The largest section includes guest suites and a screened porch, with the primary suite located on the upper level. The house encircles a sheltered internal garden courtyard. Established in 1987, Wheeler Kearns has undertaken numerous projects in the Chicago area. Photography by William Jess Laird.
