Wenchang Rocket City Thrives Despite Chang'e-7 Launch Delay

Historically recognized for its coconuts, its namesake chicken, and emigration to Southeast Asia, Wenchang has evolved significantly since the establishment of the Wenchang Space Launch Site, which conducted its inaugural launch in 2016, becoming a leading venue for rocket launches. The Long March 5 Y14 rocket, intended to transport the Chang'e-7, was postponed following safety assessments. Frustration subsided when the rocket slowly returned to the vertical assembly building around 4pm that day. The launch site has attracted numerous tourists and skilled workers, reshaping local life.
