Wayfinder Newport, a boutique hotel established by Phil Hospod and developed in partnership with Dovetail + Co and New York's Reunion Goods & Services, features an impressive 1,000-piece art collection that highlights artists from Rhode Island. This collection was curated through various means, including studio visits, gallery tours, and online searches, showcasing works like Jenny Brown's collages on vintage Rhode Island postcards, which are used for room keys and stationery. Additionally, a hand-painted pool by Sean Spellman, displaying his iconic rolling sea design, was commissioned following an introduction by photographer Read McKendree. The hotel’s decor harmonizes cool hues, antique treasures from local markets, and bespoke furnishings, offering a modern interpretation of coastal aesthetics distinct from Newport's traditional gilded-age styles. While the art collection remains constant, it expanded during renovations and continues to evolve with artist collaborations, including an outdoor mural and custom notecards, reflecting Rhode Island's vibrant creative community involving chefs, artists, and entrepreneurs.
