Warren Chang's Narrative Paintings of Migrant Laborers

Warren Chang, an artist based on California's Central Coast, has spent 24 years painting Hispanic/Latino migrant laborers in Monterey County's agricultural fields. His work is influenced by literary giants like Leo Tolstoy, Charles Dickens, Pearl S. Buck, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and John Steinbeck, as well as artists Dorothea Lange, Leon Augustin Lhermitte, Jean-Francois Millet, Pieter Bruegel, and Winslow Homer. Chang uses a limited palette of browns and grays borrowed from Europe's Old Masters to convey emotional depth. His painting 'Fall Tilling' won two awards. Chang's work is in the permanent collections of the Monterey Museum of Art, Hilbert Museum of California Art, and Whatcom Museum. His painting 'Invisible People' was published in a college textbook alongside a work by Diego Rivera. Chang is represented by Winfield Gallery in Carmel, Hauk Fine Arts in Pacific Grove, and American Legacy Fine Arts in Pasadena.
