Walter Pfeiffer's First European Survey Opens at Pinacoteca Agnelli

Walter Pfeiffer's first European survey, 'In Good Company,' is on view at Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin, Italy, through September 12, 2026. Curated by Simon Castets and Nicola Trezzi, the exhibition spans over fifty years of the Swiss photographer's work, including his 1986 series 'Das Auge, die Gedanken, unentwegt wandernd' (The eyes, the thoughts, ceaselessly wandering), which features portraits of young men met while cruising Zurich and Paris. The show is organized into five thematic groups, though the curators note that Pfeiffer described the experience of shooting the series as a search for 'El Dorado.' The exhibition includes intimate bedroom shots from the 1970s, homages to Man Ray, and fashion work with supermodel Eva Herzigová for Vogue Paris. Pfeiffer's work blends fine art, fashion photography, conceptual art, and commerce, all shot with a film camera and flash. Despite his influence, Pfeiffer has not achieved the fame of imitators like Wolfgang Tillmans or Juergen Teller. The venue, Pinacoteca Agnelli, is located in a former Fiat factory with a rooftop racetrack.
