Walker Art Gallery unveils new contemporary galleries with recent acquisitions
The contemporary galleries at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool have reopened, showcasing a selection of recent acquisitions for the first time. At the heart of this reinstallation is Michael Landy's kinetic sculpture, Multi-Saint (2013), which was inspired by his residency at the National Gallery in London and the works of Italian Renaissance artist Carlo Crivelli. This piece features five martyred saints—Catherine, Lucy, Peter Martyr, Lawrence, and Michael—creating a connection to the gallery's historical religious art collection. Additionally, the new acquisitions include Shaqúelle Whyte's In an embroiled fashion (2025), depicting two men wrestling with dynamic brushwork, and Eva Helene Pade's I mørket (In the dark) (2025), a figure illuminated in ambiguous light, referencing Northern European expressionism.
