Waka Waka's Ribbon Collection: Colorful Metal Furniture for Benex's Eetal Project

Waka Waka, a studio located in Los Angeles, has introduced Ribbon, a vibrant furniture line made from steel and aluminum, created for the Eetal project by Japanese manufacturer Benex. This collection features a chair, table, stool, tray, clothes hanger, and two racks, showcasing the versatility of sheet metal, which marks a shift from the studio's usual Baltic birch plywood. Designer Shinichiro Okuda focused on highlighting the material's natural characteristics, drawing inspiration from industrial colors and hardware. The items exhibit simple geometric forms with glossy, ribbon-like edges in shades such as yellow, pink, black, and a unique blue from Japan, alongside additional colors inspired by the Edo period. The Ribbon collection has been displayed in Tokyo and Osaka, with upcoming exhibitions in Los Angeles in September, followed by Fukuoka and Nagasaki. Photography by Kenta Hasegawa.
