Volvo EX60 Interior Design by Rekha Meena

architecture-design · 2026-07-09

Volvo Cars' Global Head of Color, Material, Finish Design Rekha Meena led the creation of four CMF themes—charcoal, cardamom, dawn, and rye—for the all-electric EX60 SUV, unveiled in Stockholm earlier this year. The themes draw inspiration from Scandinavian nature, using materials like weathered ash, rubus wood, wool, and recycled textiles. Meena began the design four years ago, starting with a blank sheet. She emphasizes that CMF brings emotion to design, citing fashion, architecture, and product design. The EX60 aims to evoke calm, with the rye theme offering a wool blend interior for coziness, charcoal inspired by darkness and the meeting of seas near Denmark and Sweden, dawn reflecting Swedish light, and cardamom evoking warmth. Meena also cites Swedish fashion brand Acne as inspiration. At Milan Design Week, Volvo introduced the EX60's themes, and Meena discussed balancing timeless and futuristic design. The EX60 is built on Volvo's SPA3 platform and is the most sustainable car in Volvo's portfolio, with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2040.
