Vitra and Studio Πunveil Bascule chair with jacket-like upholstery

During the 3 Days of Design event in Copenhagen, Vitra, in collaboration with Berlin's Studio Œ, introduced 'Bascule', a chair featuring a loosely draped textile cover reminiscent of a jacket. The term 'Bascule' translates to 'seesaw' in French, highlighting its unique suspension system that adjusts to the user's weight, allowing for a transition from an upright position to a nearly horizontal recline. Designers Lisa Ertel and Anne-Sophie Oberkrome integrated this mechanism discreetly within the armrests. The upholstery was crafted using fashion techniques, with fabric draped over prototypes to analyze fold patterns. Made with recycled fibers or V-Foam—a recyclable polyurethane developed with BASF—Bascule is available in high-back and low-back styles, suitable for home and office environments. A preview will be showcased at Vitra's Copenhagen showroom from June 10-12, 2025, ahead of its official launch in September 2026.
