Videobrasil Launches Curatorial Cycle with Vitória Cribb's Video Art

The Associação Cultural Videobrasil has launched its first Curatorial Cycle, featuring Rio de Janeiro-born artist Vitória Cribb. Curated by Clarissa Diniz, the exhibition runs until August 3 and presents three video works from Cribb's trilogy "vigilante00"—VIGILANTE_EXTENDED (2022), BUGs (2023), and echoes of a wet finger: (2024)—on the institution's digital platform. The project also includes critical texts and a large-scale projection of BUGs on the facade of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC USP) as part of the Videobrasil Open Air initiative. Cribb's work explores the intersections of technology, nature, and dystopian imaginaries, addressing surveillance, hyperconnectivity, coloniality, and the psychological impacts of technological mediation. Diniz notes that Cribb's research offers a critical perspective from a Black woman's viewpoint, linking contemporary surveillance mechanisms to historical colonial structures. The projection at MAC USP celebrates the museum's pioneering role in institutionalizing video art in Brazil since the 1970s and Videobrasil's stewardship of the largest video art collection in the Global South in Latin America.
