Victor Guerithault's Tetrahedral Kites Redefine an Ancient Art Form

Victor Guerithault, born in 1993, has developed a distinctive practice centered on tetrahedral kites, drawing inspiration from Alexander Graham Bell's aerodynamic experiments. His work stood out at the 32nd Festival du cerf-volant in Châtelaillon, Charente-Maritime, on April 4, 2026, where over 200,000 visitors attended. Guerithault first encountered kite-flying at age eleven in China, specifically on Tian'anmen Square, during a trip with his architect father. After studying at the Beaux-Arts de Rennes, he founded his company in 2019, utilizing 3D printing and laser cutting to create modular connectors that allow for 300 to 400 different kite designs. He works from an 80 m² studio in Brittany, testing prototypes in surrounding fields. Key materials include mylar, a reflective fabric discovered online, used for its lightweight, mirror-like properties. Guerithault has collaborated with Hermès, designing fabrication kits and leading workshops featuring the brand's silk scarf motifs. He also conducts children's workshops and aims to build a kite with 4,000 cells to surpass the existing record of 3,690, though such a structure might not fly. His creations, often without tails for stability, produce hypnotic, surreal effects in the sky through repetitive tetrahedral forms and anamorphoses.
