Vibeke Tandberg's Retrospective 'De lever' Opens at Kode Bergen

Kode in Bergen presents 'De lever', a nearly retrospective exhibition of Norwegian artist Vibeke Tandberg, curated with Lars Bang Larsen. The show traces Tandberg's career from the 1990s to new works from 2026, including the films 'Post Americana' and 'They Live'. Central motifs are the old man mask (first used in 2003) and a stuffed horse bought on finn.no, from which she made plaster casts ('Hestearkivet', 2023). The exhibition reuses walls from Kode's Baselitz show, stripped of backing to reveal construction. The show also features 'Old Man Dancing' (2021) with Russian ballet dancer Maria Kochetkova, and 'Old Man Cowboy' (2022/23). A catalog includes a conversation with writer Chris Kraus. The exhibition design emphasizes seeing behind constructions, with brutalist concrete beams left exposed.
