Vibeke Mascini Electrifies Plants at Hammer Museum

The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles presents "Hammer Projects: Vibeke Mascini," a new installation where electrical cables and aerial root systems intermingle. Mascini uses electroforming to render plants—including ceiba trees and orchids—into carriers of electricity. The work is part of a long-term collaboration with scientists, engineers, government employees, and musicians. Mascini's practice explores electric energy as a statement of interconnectedness between species, media, nature, and matter. Past projects have involved batteries powered by decaying whale carcasses, electric eels, melting glaciers, and human remains. The exhibition runs from June 26, 2026, at the Hammer Museum.
